I have owned a canvas pair of Jacks for about 5 years and like them very much, so I decided to try the leather model. Oddly, I bought the same size in both leather and canvas (women's 6), but find the leather ones to be larger/longer than the canvas ones? I don't know what the deal is with that, but the new leather ones actually fit more comfortably even though they are a trifle long. In any case, they are quite comfortable, having a superior sock liner, and give rather good support. The soles, unlike those on the canvas models, are siped (meaning they have cuts which give good grip, like the soles of deck shoes) and make that cool noise when you scuff them across a hard surface. In appearance, I think they look very cool and I get comments about them. Lastly, I think Jack Purcells are very cool because James Dean wore them, as evidenced by a Jack Purcell print ad from the 90s showing a photo of Mr. Dean in Jacks, the copy of which ad read: "Cool cat, cool dogs, not fade away." I liked the ad so much I bought the shoes. I'm sure they will make me immortal.
